We're Here

It occurs to me that you may have no idea where we are or what we're up to or how we got here. Let me remedy that. We rolled out of Georgia the day after Easter, took two days to drive to our new home in Maryland, stayed in a hotel two nights, closed on our home in Maryland and moved our air mattress and pack n' play in that night! We were ready to be home together regardless of the furnishings. Our household goods were delivered the next day and we have been unpacking boxes and settling in ever since (mostly.) 

We love being together again after being separated for most of five months (for Jon to complete his training for his new career.) Speaking of which, he loves it! I've never seen him this fired up about his work and it makes all the sacrifices worthwhile. I am so proud of him! Sonora can't get enough of her Daddy and wants to be at his side or in his arms whenever possible. He gets little privacy until she is in bed, but I don't think he minds. 

We now live in the lovely state of Maryland on the Eastern Shore. We are just across the Chesapeake Bay from Annapolis. Annapolis was founded in 1649, is home to the US Naval Academy, and whose downtown historic district always reminds me of Old England. There are so many fun and unique things to do and places to eat and sights to see. We've only been here two weeks and we just love it! I feel guilty about admitting to this, being from the deep South and all, however, there is a charm and grace, and a beauty and culture about this place that you just can't help falling in love with. 

Jon has two cousins and a cousin-in-law, whom we prefer to refer to as wonderful friends whom we love and that we are thrilled about getting to spend more time with. They live in the heart of historic Annapolis and have helped us get a jump on experiencing this wonderful place and making good friends. Sonora adores her Aunties, Sarah and Val, who love and spoil her, and her Uncle Zeb, who teaches her how to make "mean" faces (although to see her make them you can't help but laugh and agree with us that she really is the cutest kid ever!)

I love my new home. (Pictures coming soon.) It has its quirks, to be sure, but we feel so blessed to be the ones living in it, quirks and all. There are still quite a few boxes piled around but it is slowly being transformed into our sanctuary. The day we arrived so many neighbors came out to meet us. Everyone was so gracious and friendly and there are quite a few friends for Sonora. One of the older boys immediately started teaching Sonora how to play lacrosse and within minutes she was slinging that ball across the cul-de-sac. (Yes, rowing and lacrosse are big up here. But don't worry, our children will be football fans, even if they sling a few lacrosse balls on the side.) 

As always, we'd love to have you come and visit us. We are 45-ish minutes from DC, 20 minutes from Annapolis, and just 5 minutes from this incredible crab house right on the Chesapeake. Ya'll should come...really you should.
