Last week we went to the National Zoo in downtown D.C. To enlighten you about that expedition, we'll offer an exclusive interview with Sonora, who saw it all.
Hacker: Did you go to the zoo?
Sonora: Yes
Hacker: Did you like the zoo?
Sonora. Yes. Zoo. Tiger.
Hacker: What does the tiger say?
Sonora: Raaaaar! Lion. Lion outside.
[Don't be deceived. The zoo was lionless.]
Hacker: What was your favorite?
Sonora: My favorite?
Hacker: Yeah. Your favorite?
Lisa: Was it the tiger or the baby gorilla or the naked mole rat or the octopus?
Sonora: My favorite. Nake [Snake]. My favorite. Nake. My favorite. Monkey. And my favorite. Monkey.
And there you have it! She also saw prairie dogs and fish and orangutans and mollusks. She even pet a cow. A gorilla was probably the most interactive critter there. He flirt with all passersby by spitting up on the glass window looking out on the entrance to the gorilla house. As exciting as the gorilla was, Sonora was just as excited about a tall sprinkler hanging over one of the paths. She loved running through the mist.
The twins didn't see a thing. They slept like the sloth we saw crammed into a box in the corner. Even while sleeping, the twins still get lots of attention. In fact, they compared quite favorably to some of the other exhibits. But everyone feels compelled to tell Lisa she has her hands full. Apparently, it's not obvious.
It was a great visit on the whole. Very calming, in fact. So if anyone tells you your house is like a zoo, just remember that it could be even more crazy. It could be like the Shaffer home. Believe me. I've seen both.

I started to tell my hubby about this post and allI had out of my mouth was the fact that y'all went to the zoo and he was making some comment about "Don't they already have enough of a zoo at their house?" :) Loving all your photos and updates (though I am rarely online to comment when I read them)...thanks for sharing the glances into your day that make us all smile...and remind us that our own homes really must be slightly less zoo-like! ;)
